Let’s Talk Gas Safety
Almost two thirds of the gas work that is carried out in homes across the UK is unsafe. This is why Gas Safe Register has launched Let’s Talk Gas Safety. This scheme is intended to raise awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning, and other hazardous gasses.
You need to be a qualified engineer to be able to work on gas appliances. You must be registered on the Gas Safe Register. It is a legal requirement that all gas workers must be registered, no matter what their job. You can also take training courses if you do not have the necessary qualifications. However, the process can take years to complete. Once you have finished the training, you will receive a certification. This certification allows you to legally perform gas work.
You will be taught everything about the industry during the training. This includes classroom based theory work and workshop based practical tasks. You will have the ability to join a Gas Safe engineer after you complete this training.
Gas Safe certified engineers can inspect your gas appliances. This includes checking chimneys, flues, and vents. They can also check that the appliance is fitted to the pipework correctly. A technician can check that there is sufficient air flow to the appliance. To keep your gas appliance safe, you should inspect it at least once per year.
It is also illegal for you to use a rogue trader for gas fittings or installation. These companies often do not perform their work safely, and it can lead to your home becoming a fire hazard. Illegal gasfitters could also put you at high risk for gas poisoning.
