Bank of large commercial expansion vessels being serviced in a London plant room
    Fully insured & guaranteed

    Commercial Expansion Vessel Servicing London

Commercial expansion vessel servicing, testing, recharge and replacement across London and the M25. Plant room vessels are larger, harder to isolate and far more expensive to get wrong than domestic units — a bank of vessels with one failed member will overload the rest and take the whole group with it. We service single vessels and banks, record every pre-charge reading, and work to planned maintenance schedules that keep the pressurisation set stable.

    Plant room expansion vessel servicing

Plant room servicing starts with the system, not the vessel. We establish the fill pressure, the safety valve setting and the static head, then work out what the vessels should be pre-charged to and compare that with what they actually hold. Each vessel is isolated in turn where valves allow, the water side is drained, the pre-charge is measured and reset with nitrogen, and the vessel is inspected for corrosion, support and connection condition. Where isolation valves are missing or seized we price fitting them, because a vessel that cannot be isolated cannot be maintained.

    • System fill, relief and static head established first
    • Each vessel isolated, drained and tested in turn
    • Nitrogen recharge to calculated pre-charge
    • Corrosion, supports and connections inspected
    • Isolation valves fitted where missing or seized

Large vessel inspection and vessel banks

Large vessels of several hundred litres are often installed in banks sharing a common header. Because they share the load, a single waterlogged vessel is invisible on the system gauge until the remaining vessels are working beyond their acceptance volume and the relief valve starts lifting. We test each vessel individually rather than sampling the group, log the readings so degradation is visible year on year, and identify vessels that need bladder replacement before they take the rest of the bank with them.

    • Every vessel in a bank tested individually
    • Readings trended between visits
    • Undersized or failed vessels identified early
    • Replaceable bladders fitted where the shell is sound

Commercial heating expansion vessels and pressurisation

On commercial heating systems the expansion vessel works alongside a pressurisation unit that makes up water automatically. That automation hides failures: a waterlogged vessel simply causes the unit to cycle and top up, so the first real symptom is often a high water-usage alarm or a relief valve dumping into the plant room. We service the vessel and the pressurisation set together — pump operation, pressure switches, make-up tank level, break tank and float valve — so the whole expansion arrangement is proved rather than one component of it.

    • Commercial heating expansion vessel servicing
    • Pressurisation unit pumps and switches checked
    • Break tank, float valve and make-up verified
    • Excess make-up investigated as a system fault

    Commercial expansion vessel replacement

Replacement in a plant room is a planning job as much as a plumbing one. We check access and lifting routes before ordering, confirm the vessel can physically reach its position, size the replacement to current system volume rather than copying whatever was there, and programme the work around the building — usually out of hours or at a weekend so heating or hot water is not lost during occupancy. Where a single large vessel cannot be manoeuvred in, multiple smaller vessels on a header achieve the same capacity and are easier to maintain.

    • Access and lifting routes surveyed before ordering
    • Capacity recalculated for the current system
    • Split vessel arrangements where access is restricted
    • Works phased out of hours to protect service

    Maintenance contracts and compliance records

Most of our commercial clients place expansion vessels on an annual or six-monthly maintenance schedule, with the visit combined with plant room servicing so there is one attendance rather than three. Each visit produces a record of pre-charge readings, actions taken and recommendations, which supports insurance inspections and planned expenditure. Contract clients get priority attendance on breakdowns, which matters when a failed vessel is discharging into a plant room at eight in the morning.

    • Annual and six-monthly maintenance schedules
    • Combined visits with plant room and boiler servicing
    • Documented readings and recommendations
    • Priority breakdown attendance for contract sites
