Which shower suits your system

An electric shower heats water on demand and works on any mains cold supply — ideal where hot water is limited, though flow drops in winter. A thermostatic mixer blends stored or combi hot water and gives the best experience where pressure is good. Gravity-fed systems with a loft tank usually need a pump to produce a decent spray. Digital showers add accurate temperature control and remote start. We test the property first and recommend accordingly.

The installation itself

We isolate the supplies, remove the old unit, and run new pipework or cable as required. Electric showers are installed on a dedicated circuit with the correct cable size and an isolator, certified by a qualified electrician. Mixer valves are set and tested for temperature stability, and the tray or enclosure is levelled, tanked at the junctions and sealed. Everything is run and checked at working pressure before we finish.

Weak showers and pumps

If the existing shower is weak, the cause is nearly always the water system rather than the shower head. On a gravity system, a twin-impeller pump transforms performance provided the cold tank and cylinder can supply it. On a combi, flow is limited by the boiler’s litres-per-minute rating, so a high-flow head simply cannot be fed — a low-flow head with good spray design is the better answer.

Safety and scald protection

Any new shower valve should be thermostatic. It holds the outlet temperature steady when a tap is used elsewhere and shuts down if the cold supply fails. In properties let to families, or where an occupant is elderly or has reduced mobility, we set the maximum outlet temperature at the valve and record the setting — a simple step that prevents the most common cause of domestic scalding.
