Why heat networks fall out of balance
Schemes drift. Units get replaced with different duties, DPCVs get opened up to silence a complaint, isolation valves are left part-closed after repairs, and extensions or conversions add load nobody rebalanced for. The result is a network where the lower floors are over-served and the upper floors are starved, and where return temperatures climb because units nearest the plant never close down properly.
- DPCVs opened up as a quick fix for individual complaints
- Replacement units with different flow characteristics
- Valves left part-closed after repair works
- Added load from conversions and extensions
