Descaling the DHW plate heat exchanger
London water is hard, and the DHW side of an HIU exchanger scales steadily. Because brazed plate exchangers cannot be opened, cleaning means circulating a descaling solution through the secondary side with a flushing pump, then neutralising and rinsing. Where the scale is moderate this recovers most of the lost performance for a fraction of the cost of a new exchanger, and we prove the result with temperature readings taken before and after.
