Why cold water booster sets fail
The pumps themselves are rarely first to go. Far more often the break tank float valve fails and the low-level switch shuts the pumps down, the accumulator loses its pre-charge so the set cycles itself to destruction, the strainer clogs with debris from an unclean tank, or a transducer drifts so the panel never reaches its set point. Genuine pump failure — worn stacks, failed seals, burnt-out motors — usually follows one of those, because the pump has been made to work in conditions it was not designed for.
- Break tank float valve and level switch failures
- Waterlogged accumulators causing rapid cycling
- Blocked strainers starving the pumps
- Transducer drift and control panel faults
- Worn impeller stacks and failed mechanical seals
- Motor overloads and contactor failures
