What causes low water pressure
Pressure and flow are different things and confusing them causes most misdiagnosis. You can have good static pressure and terrible flow if the supply pipe is 15mm lead silted down to a pencil bore. The usual culprits are a stopcock that has been left half shut or has seized with the jumper loose, a pressure reducing valve that has failed closed, a scaled or blocked filter on a combi or an appliance, a partially blocked strainer, a shared supply where a neighbour's demand steals your flow, or a leak on the underground main.
- Seized or partially closed internal and external stopcocks
- Failed or wrongly set pressure reducing valves
- Old lead or galvanised supply pipe with reduced bore
- Blocked strainers, filters and scaled fittings
- Shared supply pipes serving several properties
- Underground leaks reducing flow at the property
