Saniflo installation: how it works

A macerator lets you put a WC, basin, shower or kitchen sink where there is no gravity fall to the soil stack. The installation stands or falls on three things: choosing a unit rated for every appliance you intend to connect, running the discharge in the correct diameter with the vertical lift taken first and the horizontal run falling gently to the stack, and providing a safe, correctly rated electrical supply. We survey the route before quoting, so you are not told half way through the job that the pipework cannot be concealed.

Saniflo replacement and cost factors

Most replacements are straightforward swaps and take a morning. What moves the price is the model, whether the existing discharge pipework and electrical supply can be reused, and whether the unit is boxed in behind tiling or furniture that has to come out and be made good. A like-for-like Saniflo replacement in an accessible cupboard is the cheapest scenario; a concealed unit behind a tiled duct with a different discharge position is the most expensive. We give you the full replacement cost in writing — unit, labour, parts, removal and disposal — before we start.

Macerator toilet installation and replacement

For a new macerator toilet installation we set the pan, fit the unit behind or below it depending on the model, connect any basin or shower waste to the side inlets where the unit allows it, run the discharge and commission the system with a full flush test. For a macerator toilet replacement we remove the old pan and unit, check the discharge run for scale and sags that will trouble the new pump, and correct them before the new unit goes in — a new macerator connected to a furred-up discharge pipe simply fails again.

Saniflo pump and macerator pump replacement

Where the casing and chamber are sound but the pump or motor has failed, replacing the pump assembly rather than the whole unit is often the better value option. We source genuine motor and blade assemblies, replace the casing seals and membrane at the same time so you are not calling us back in three months, and re-test under load. Where parts for an older model are no longer made, we say so and quote a full unit replacement instead.

Saniflo versus other macerator brands

Saniflo remains the default because parts availability and model range are the best on the market, and any engineer can get spares next day. Alternatives such as Stuart Turner, Grundfos Sololift and Jabsco are well built and can be a better fit for particular duties — heavy shower flows, kitchen waste with a disposal unit, or long horizontal runs. We install all of them and will recommend the brand that suits the duty, the noise tolerance of the room next door and the parts support you will need in ten years.

Aftercare and servicing

Every installation is left with a commissioning test, a demonstration of what can and cannot be flushed, and a written note of the model and part numbers for future reference. We recommend an annual descale in London's hard water and can put the unit on a yearly service visit. If anything goes wrong in the meantime, the same engineers attend — and existing units are covered by our same-day repair service.
