Why the toilet blocked
Nine times in ten the cause is something that should not have been flushed: wet wipes marketed as flushable, kitchen roll, cotton buds, sanitary products or nappies. Older properties with cast iron or clay branches also suffer from scale build-up that narrows the bore until anything catches. In flats with a macerator unit, the blockage is usually inside the pump chamber rather than in the pan.
